Available again in limited quantities, our hand crafted, wheel thrown ceramic shaving bowls are a must have for those who love a traditional shave. They are a perfect compliment to our round Traditional Shaving Soaps and offer an eco-friendly option for storing and lathering up your soap. Each bowl is beautifully handcrafted and meticulously made to fit our shaving soaps. Not only does each and every bowl have a stunning finish, but the potter has also elevated the inside by slightly raising the bottom in a spiral design to allow for drainage.

Made exclusively for AVNS by local potter Jessie Chibana at Snowbird Studios, "Hi! I’m a graphic designer from Minnesota who loves to make ceramics in my spare time, focusing primarily on functional pieces for the kitchen and home. I particularly enjoy focusing on form and experimenting with different types of clays, glazes, and firings. My goal is to create pottery that people might love to use every day, and for these pieces to not only be functional but beautiful."

Directions for a traditional shave:

Wet your brush under running hot water and allow it adequate time to absorb water.
Don‘t tap too much excess water off the brush, then lather up the soap using circular motions directly in a container or vessel of your choice. At first, the bubbles will appear large, but as you keep going, they will increase in number and become smaller. After a short while you should have achieved a thick, warm lather.
Apply and massage the warm lather with the soaped brush evenly across your face in circular motions. This will also increase the lather‘s density, soften your whiskers, and allow them to stand up, allowing the razor to sit close to the base of the hair follicle. The longer you whisk, the richer the lather, the smoother the shave and the more your skin will be protected.
Empty excess water from the soap container and leave it open so it can air-dry.

The key to a good shaving soap is a high fat content so skin is protected during the shave, it will also nourish your skin so it doesn't become dry and irritated. A good shaving soap is economically a great choice as it lasts a long time, and it is a wonderful option for your skin because it adds, not detracts, moisture. Ingredients such as olive oil, shea butter and avocado will do just that, nourish and protect skin during and after the shave. Our Shaving Soaps are all this and more as we've also added bentonite clay which brings slip to help the razor glide over the skin, and colloidal oats which help protect and soothe.

* We used to sell a shaving brush with the bowls as a set, but found that customers have different preferences for the type of brush they like to use with a shaving soap. So for now we have discontinued selling the shaving brush and changed the price to reflect that this listing is for a ceramic hand thrown bowl.
