Marshmallow shampoo? Bring it on, babe. The marshmallow herb is incredibly moisturizing. To get the most benefit from the herb, we let it sit in oils for a while until we get a mucilage that makes a fabulous vitamin and mineral-rich detangler for curly hair, this is what goes into our soap. Marshmallow root also nourishes and rehydrates dry cells, making this a great bar for dry hair, scalp and skin.
We added aloe because it rhymes with marshMALLOW and sounds cool. Actually, Aloe vera contains something called proteolytic enzymes which repairs dead skin cells on the scalp. It's fabulous for skin because it's rich in vitamin C, E and beta carotene which nourishes skin and scalp deeply. Also, due to its antifungal and antiviral properties, it prevents itching and reduces dandruff and flaking, it also has very potent anti-inflammatory properties which help reduce redness and inflammation. If that isn't enough, it also acts as a great conditioner and leaves your hair all smooth and shiny, plus it promotes hair growth. What more could you want?
Maybe you are wondering how it smells? Earthy, warm, and sweet. Haunting. Delicious. It's sort of hard to explain, so I recommend trying one just to find out.
UPDATE: We changed our Aloe to an Organic Aloe Extract and with it the color of the bar changed. We are in process of getting new photos, but the bar is now quite a bit darker, it actually looks very similar to our Bamboo Shampoo bar.
Ingredients: saponified oils of a marshmallow infused olive, organic shea nut butter, organic coconut, castor bean, grapeseed, mango seed butter, and organic jojoba, organic aloe vera extract, rosemary oil extract, and essential oils of orange, ylang ylang, patchouli, and eucalyptus, fragrance.

Other great choices for dry, textured hair include the Jojoba Silk Conditioning shampoo bar, Latte Brunette shampoo bar, Wheat and Honey Almond shampoo bar, Simply Shea shampoo bar, and Bamboo Shampoo bar.
Don't forget to check out our Citric Acid Hair Rinses or our Herbal Vinegar Hair Rinse - an important step when you are using shampoo bars (read more about that HERE). In addition, you'll want to enable your soap to dry out properly between uses. Try one of our soap mats!
I use demi permanent hair color so I need a bar shampoo that keeps my color from fading. This shampoo maintains my color and gives my hair great body.
I’m disappointed :/ it didn’t feel like the bar washed out of my hair at all, leaving it feeling gross and greasy. Maybe I’m doing something wrong but the bars I’ve had in the past never felt as if they couldn’t wash out. I spent a good three rinses in the hottest water I could manage trying to get it out.
I will never go back to regular shampoo again! I purchased 3 sample bars and cannot wait to try the other two. My scalp does not feal sripped like regular shampoo does. Even sulfate free shampoos left my scalp dry. The whole texture of my hair feels strong and healthier than it has in a long time. I do have hard water but did a final rinse in distilled water and will do a vinegar rinse once every 2 weeks. I am so grateful to have found this product site. I will definitely be a happy customer!
I was really skeptical about trying a bar shampoo, so I just ordered a sample of the Marshmallow Aloe. After the first use I've already decided I'm never going back to bottled shampoo and conditioner. The lather was incredible and my hair already looks so much healthier! I can't wait to try some of the other products.
This bar is AMAZING for grey hair. Marianne recommended this for my husband, who has grey hair, and was not happy with the drying aspect of a bar from another company. His hair is soft and feels thicker, and I will definitely buy this again.
I love these shampoo bars! I have very long, curly hair and they work well for me. They last longer than shampoo in bottles and are better for the environment.
Love love love. Literally every product from AVNS. This one makes my hair so soft and lathers nicely. Soft water is a must.
The Marshmallow Aloe bar is by far my favorite. I kind of understood it to be for coarser hair and bought it initially for my husband who has very ethnic hair. I've since adopted it and purchased another when I ran out. I have fine, bleached hair that is dry with oily roots (a lot going on I know). My hair gets weighed down easily, but is still dry and in need of moisture. This bar is perfect for that. If I lather it up, and let it sit on my hair for a while, it seems to work better. The fragrance is amazing too!
My first soap purchase was a shampoo bar. I worked through various samples, and when I tried the Marshmallow and Aloe, I knew I got a winner. Shampoo bars really fit my minimalist nature, but because of my hair type, I almost always use a rich, deep conditioner. For the first time, I did not need to use a conditioner, maybe just a little argon oil. And I have virtually no tangles. Unbelievable! I always order an extra bar with an order so I'm never without. And I'm grateful for the lack of conditioner bottles cluttering up my bathtub! Thanks!
I was so disappointed in all of the products I ordered except the argan oil. I ordered over $50 in products my first time(my mistake.) I ordered the acne bar which was alright. I should have just tried samples. I have soft water and used this bar and the jojoba silk bar along with the citric acid rinse and they made my hair feel disgusting wet and dry. I used the bar for almost two weeks. I really didn't like the smell of either bar. I thought maybe I was using the products wrong I had emailed apple valley twice but never got responses. I was really hoping this stuff would be all its cracked up to be. Unfortunately I think this order and the service AFTER I received my products has ruined appley valley natural soaps for me. I was way too happy to go back to my normal shampoo and conditioner. AVNS Response: I'm so sorry you were unhappy with your selections. I'm afraid I didn't get any emails from you, but I'm eager to answer any of your questions or concerns.
