Shampoo samples are a great way to try out the many options available from Apple Valley. The difficult part is trying to keep the samples organized so you know which ones you are using. There is a list of the samples in order, but once you open the package and take out a sample, it is difficult to keep straight. I thought I would the time to put each sample in a small plastic storage bag and wrote its name on a piece of paper and put it inside the bag. I did this until about 2/3 were done, but then the cellophane packaging tore and the remaining samples got mixed up. I tried to identify them by color or fragrance, but couldn't do that for all. Also, unless you hit on a sample that blows you away, you will end up using many samples and not remembering exactly how well you liked them. So then I started writing down what I thought about each one and that helped. Ironically, one of the free samples, sent with an order turned out to be one of my favorites, Latte Brunette, and I ordered it. I still have many samples. It will take you a long time to use them all up. Overall it is well worth it if you take the time to keep them organized.

This is a great way to try shampoo bars. The scents are lovely, the bars suds up like crazy, and my hair feels great. I don't know why I didn't try these sooner

Apple Valley Shampoo bars are a natural, effective way to wash your hair and decrease your carbon footprint. No plastic bottles! The bar I started with has lasted much longer than I expected. I am able to pack it in a soap container with my acne facial soap and body bar. This saves wright and space in my overnight bag. I highly recommend this product.

Cute sample, great for gifts

Love the idea. The bar maxe a thick lather a d smelled wounderful. I would love to use it occasionally, reason being ,, I have very thin, fine hair and this soap made it so soft, it had no body. It would be great for people with very thick, corse hair. The shampoos I use has a body builder in it so it gives my hair the body it needs.

I ordered several shampoo bar samples, but haven't had the chance to try all of them yet. So far I have tried the Mango Citrus and Masala Chai. The Chai smells incredible and i really like that one. The Mango one is nice, but I don't get much mango smell and it leaves my hair slightly greasy/waxy after a day (but super easy to hide or touch up with dry shampoo); I just don't think it's the right one for my hair type, but it is still very nice. I love that they all smell amazing, are zero waste, and that I don't have to use conditioner with them! 10/10 will order again.

Man 2.0 was the only one that my wife even remotely thought smelled alright. I wasn't really a fan of any of em. Sorry to say. Also, this is personal preference. Don't let it deter you from trying these products. I was asked by email to do a review. So.. here it is.

I have recently become allergic to so many things, and had to get rid all of my hair products. This shampoo bar suds up beautifully, leaves my scalp happy and balanced, and it doesn't strip the oils from my hair. The best part is that I am not allergic to anything in this bar. Such a lifesaver! Thank you!

Works well and lathers

I am really glad that there is an option to purchase sample bars because there is quite a difference each bar I tried had on my hair type. I sampled: Bella Rose, White China Silk, Hemp and Honey, and Rhassoul and Avocado. Overall, each shampoo bar left a heavier residue or film than other shampoo bars that I've tried. This post wash texture and build up and acv rinse is not something I have had to consider with other bar brands, and so this is also something that makes my rating lower for these products. I have a good amount of hair, longish between shoulder blades, that is straight and more on the fine than thick spectrum- and found the rhoussal/avocado was the heaviest residue for my hair type-it was a nice body soap instead- no matter how thoroughly I rinsed with water it felt like it was not washing out, my hair took forever to dry, and was incredibly weighed down. Therefore, this one was a zero stars for me. The White China Silk was just okay- I would give this a three star. The lather was less sudsy, but I felt like it was more clarifying, and it left my hair with a slick slippery feeling that seemed clean and nourished. Yet there was still a level of heaviness that seemed to weig it down though my hair was very soft after using. I love the smell of this bar. Bella Rosa is the one I like the most so far! It has a really nice lather, minimal build up, and it very hydrating. I like this one a lot and would repurchase this as a full bar! The Hemp and Honey is my next favorite but still a little heavier than I would want from a shampoo. Overall, nice ingredients and would probably purchase the body soaps instead as I have found other shampoo brands that I enjoy over these and work better for my hair.

Honestly, my whole family did, must admit there was a little bit of fighting over the Honey Carrot one. My teen son swooped it up before I could, lol but if a teen boy loves the smell and feel you know its good!

I have been very pleased with my order so far. My hair feels healthier and is shinier than it has been in quite some time.

The shampoo bars do a nice job of cleaning hair without stripping it. I also recommend the jojoba conditioning bar.

I am new to shampoo bars and heard they can take some getting used to. I have used the samples about 5 times now and think I am finally getting the hang of it. I like how my hair feels and looks. I got these more to reduce the number of plastic bottles in my house, but the effects on my hair are an added bonus. My curls seem bouncier and sleeker!

I haven't been through all of the samples yet but I did find my new absolute favorite, grapefruit patchouli. After a two weeks of using these little shampoo bars i knew my hair has never looked or felt, better, my scalp doesn't itch anymore and i don't have any dandruff. I threw out all my chemical laden bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash. I'm never going back to that. Now all I have in my shower is this one little can-do bar and the hair rinse.

I've barely had time to try any more than the sample "sliver" you sent as a bonus. I'm writing this review so you won[t keep reminding me to write a review. They all smell appropriate for a guy.

I ordered 6 sample bars for my boyfriend and I to try. We were interested in two companies, Apple valley being one, and wanted to see what would work best for us. The last company we tried gave our hair loads of shine & volume, and lathered up more. The Apple Valley bars felt very ‘slick’ & didn’t foam as much. They were also more dense to the touch. Upon washing, due to that slick feeling, my hair felt instantly weighed down & the minimal suds disappeared quickly so it felt like I was just scrubbing my head without soap. I tried several different bars & all of them had the same result. I tried air drying & blow drying my hair, but both methods yielded the same results—flat, weighed down hair. For my hair type, at least a little bit of volume/lift is crucial. The bars did clean my hair initially, but by the end of the day I felt like I needed to wash again already (I can usually go every other day). My mid to ends were left frizzy & fly-away, yet also somewhat “stuck” together even with my moisture drench conditioner left on for several minutes after washing. I’m not sure what the differences are with how the two companies make their soaps, but AVNS bars just don’t mesh with my hair (which is long, very fine but lots of it, oily at the scalp & dry at the ends). I will say, that they included a sample of their rosemary lavender coconut body wash bar, and it smells soo heavenly. Better than all of the shampoo bars. It was a bit too drying for my skin, but the smell was so fresh and lovely & it may work better for a different skin type.

I was immediately impressed by the amount of thick lather the shampoo bars made. My hair performs just as it did with the previous products I used. I do have some mild scalp itch with the oily scalp formulation so I wonder if I should try the normal hair formula next.

I ordered a sample size of Bella Rose, which I have’t used yet. But I used a sample of rhassoul and avocado, which I did not like. I use mousse and a leave-In conditioner after shampooing. Those coupled with the shampoo bar left my hair with a film on it that made my hair dull looking. I won’t be using again. I’m also reluctant to use the Bella rose I ordered.

I was on the fence about trying a shampoo bar but am trying to quit using products with chemicals. The transition period that I had heard about bothered me. But when I found AVNSC that was in Minnesota, and discovered that a shampoo bar can be used for rest of body & face, I just had to give it a try. I am so very happy that I did. I had no problems with transition on my hair; probably because it is short and I don't color or perm it. My hair is completely white now and feels amazing after using these bars. I love that you can purchase samples for such a reasonable price so you don't have to buy a huge bar only to find it doesn't work for you. I am all in and after trying out my samples I will be back for more. I even got my husband to try a shampoo bar........he likes that he only needs the one bar for a shower. Don't hesitate, get some samples and be amazed :-)

Mango Citrus - love the smell but better suited for body soap as there isn't much larger. Restore - love the smell and lather Peppermint Tea Tree - refreshing scent and nice lather.

i have normal to dry hair,and the bar seemed to have stripped the oils from my hair and made it like hay.i dot use conditioners,so that may be the reason,i dont know.it would probably work great for someone with oily hair.

I tried a bunch of different samples, but by far my favorite was the peppermint and tea tree! It starts off as a really strong mint smell while washing, then later you really smell the tea tree. I've started adding tea tree to my acv rinses too, really nice scent combo. I highly recommend this bar. It's even gentle enough for my husband's super sensitive skin.

I was very happy with the time frame I received my samples in. They where intact and not broken. I have only had a change to try a few of the bars but so far i am very happy with them. The smell is not over powering at all, a big plus they do not leave a film in my hair, and my curly hair don't get matted like other bar shampoo's I have tried. I am glad that I found your products.

I have not had time to try all the samples yet but, so far, I am loving the rhassoul and avacado. Will definitely repurchase.

I got the shampoo bars samples, I was pleasantly surprised. I have natural curly gray hair which is past my shoulders, the first time I used one my hair felt odd while it was wet and all I could think was "I will never get a comb thru it". And with no conditioner, I was so wrong....my hair feels wonderful, and the best part is my scalp. I can't wait to try more but right now the marshmallow and aloe is my favorite. Thanks so much !!!!

I ordered a few sample shampoo bars to try. My favorite so far has been the Lavender Buttermilk shampoo bar. I've ordered shampoo bars from other companies and they were good; however, they did not have the lovely scents you offer. I'm looking forward to trying your other bars! This scent is really feminine, but not overpowering.

I live in a humid climate and the shampoo bar doesn't work well with my hair type. It works better on days that aren't so hot and humid. I also purchased a shower filter and the ACV rinse.

I chose 7 sample bars, and so far I love the 3 I have tried and my brother loved the one I gave him.

I haven't used it that long, but I think I like it. It takes some getting used to, adjusting to the vinegar rinses, but so far I'm pleased and plan to order more in different fragrances.

I have been having issues with a flaky, itchy scalp. I tried every kind of bottled shampoo. I somehow heard about shampoo bars and decided to try them out. At first I ordered from a different company, all the bars smell like lavender oil. I found AVN through FB and ordered some samples. I LOVE these bars. The smell, the lather, the variety. I got my order pretty quick. My favorite is the orange blossom chamomile. I am still trying to figure out which shampoo works the best for my head but I am a customer for life. My samples pack of soaps and shampoos smelled so wonderful! No overwhelming lavender oil smell. Thank you !!

I already adore Apple Valley soaps, so when I recently re-stocked my stash, I thought I'd try a shampoo bar for the first time. I was hesitant since I imagine washing my hair with a typical bar soap, but good cow, it's awesome! I used it for the first time this morning- It lathered beautifully, smells wonderful and my hair feels so much lighter and softer today! Curse my weakness to a $2.50 sample- I may never be happy with another shampoo again! My next step is to pair this with the Matcha tea body soap.. and maybe I'll drink some mint tea at the same time just for kicks and giggles. Thanks for my new vice! You've got my entire family hooked now and even my military husband is requesting you guys if we start to get low!

I ordered samples of both the above bars. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is because unfortunately the Peppermint and Tea Tree bar is not effective in controlling my dandruff but it smelled wonderful and made my hair smell very clean. The Coconut Body Bar was great for shaving actually even though I had brought it to maybe use as a conditioner replacement. I really wanted them to work in my hair care routine but it's just not working with mine. Love the way they smell though and would still recommend them to someone else.

I recently purchased the William Shakespeare, Herman Melville, Charles Dickens, and Jane Austen samples to give to some of my family members. The sample sizes themselves are defiantly worth their weight and my family members really enjoyed the way they all smelled. My only disappointment was that I couldn't find the C.S. Lewis or the Tolstoy bars in the list of samples. The C.S. Lewis is currently out of stock so maybe that's why. I would have just enjoyed sampling both of those as well. Regardless these bars are great and smell wonderful. Just like all of the other products I have purchased before.

I had no trouble getting suds and they are far better than camp shampoo sheets from camping store. I did add a little conditioner after so I can get brush through my thick wavey hair. I am sensitive to fragrances, so am not sure I will be able to use these, but will try on my upcoming vacation where I am trying to reduce the amount of weight I am carrying, and liquid (per TSA).

When I order soap I have to tell myself I can't have every sample! I love having a variety of options and there is always something new to try.

The sink salt bars are great and last a long time but are a little big. I live in a tiny home and have found that the sample size is perfect for our smaller sink areas and even better for putting in the camper for easy access to keep clean.

I often start off with a sample of new bars. They last long enough to know if your body agrees with the ingredients without buying a whole bar. They are also great for traveling!!!

I think these bars are great! I think the idea is wonderful, but some people have hard water, like we do. :) I was glad I got samples before hand to find out if we had hard water or not before I got the big bars. I plan on still using them. We might get a shower head filter. :)

These samples are a great way to figure out how you like the smell of these bars and how they make your hair feel. I purchased these because I had been using J.R. Liggetts shampoo bars, but I didn't enjoy the way they were making my hair smell. The samples I purchased each make my hair smell and feel great. I am ecstatic about it and will definitely be buying more from Apple Valley. :D

My previous review was for jojoba silk bar. Wanted to stress that I love every bar I've ever tried. I love the sample size. I have a regular size Princess Buttermilk bar because I love the name and the fragrance....but all Apple Valley bars are superb.

I bought the sample bar because I love trying lots of the bars. I love jojoba oil and this bar left my hair very silky. Can't quit touching it.
